With Brevard continuing to have a high number of crashes, especially involving vulnerable road users, a new initiative is being developed to fundamentally change how everyone thinks about traffic safety. That initiative is Vision Zero, a goal of having zero fatalities and serious injuries on our roadways. The first step in reaching this goal is to develop a Vision Zero Action Plan.
Vision Zero acknowledges that many factors contribute to safe mobility — including roadway design, speeds, behaviors, technology, and policies — and sets clear goals to achieve the shared goal of zero fatalities and severe injuries (Vision Zero Network).
To put Brevard on the road to zero and to create the Action Plan, the SCTPO is assembling a task force representing a diverse group of individuals made up from different agencies and citizens throughout the county.
Participation in the Vision Zero Task Force requires participation in the Vision Zero Kick Off Symposium and Workshop to be held on September 25, 2019. There will also be three additional workshops anticipated to be held in January, April, and June of 2020. Workshops will be held on weekdays during the daytime.
It is anticipated that the Task Force membership will be announced by the end of August, 2019.
