The Space Coast TPO held a field trip on Friday, November 4, to highlight the Brevard County portion of the Coast to Coast Trail. Members of the Florida Greenways and Trails Foundation and Council, their guests, and members of the TPO’s board and committees (or their representatives) were invited to attend.
30 participants from 3 different states, and all across Florida, were in attendance. They had the opportunity to hear about current and future plans along the trail, as well as view completed, planned, and segments currently under construction. A highlight of the day was trekking across the Garden Street Pedestrian Overpass in the cool morning air. They also viewed the site of the future equestrian segment of the trail, attended the ribbon cutting of Draa Field Stormwater Park (will serve as a trailhead), and saw the potential alignment that is currently under study on the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge.
The Coast to Coast Trail is to travel from the gulf in St. Petersberg across the state to the Atlantic Ocean in the Canaveral National Seashore. For more information on the Coast to Coast Trail please visit: http://spacecoasttpo.com/implement/space-coast-loop-trail/.
