Brevard County can start the year right, and reThink how to get to work and school, during the 2nd Annual Resolve to reThink Your Commute day. On Thursday, January 15, 2015, Space Coast Area Transit is offering free rides; simply visit RideSCAT.com to print a free bus ticket.
This year’s event features a new partner: Eastern Florida State College. Students of the school may ride the bus for free thanks to a funding agreement between the college and Space Coast Area Transit. The “free ride” partnership ceremony is Thursday, January 15th at 10:45 am in front of the King Center for the Performing Arts in Melbourne. Speakers will include Jim Liesenfelt, Transit Services Director for Space Coast Area Transit; Richard Laird, M.B.A., Vice President, Financial & Technical Services at Eastern Florida State College; Sandra Handfield, M.A., Provost for the Eastern Florida State College Melbourne campus; and Kathy Meehan, City of Melbourne Mayor.
Afternoon events at each Eastern Florida State College campus will focus on coordinating carpools and vanpools, as well as registering commuters for reThink’s Emergency Ride Home program.
The Resolve to reThink Your Commute campaign is led by reThink, a program of the Florida Department of Transportation. reThink aims to decrease traffic congestion, improve air quality, conserve natural resources, and save people money. To achieve these goals, reThink promotes transportation options, including carpooling/vanpooling, riding transit, biking, walking, and telecommuting.
